USS HORNET ~ 2011 REUNION EVENTS

 

 

EVENT A: U.S. NAVY MEMORIAL, WREATH LAYING CEREMONY & VIP VETERANS TOUR

Thursday, September 15th (9:00am-3:30pm)

 

Your day begins at the one and only U.S. Navy Memorial for a very special Wreath Laying Ceremony & Memorial Service. Afterwards, there will be time at the memorial to browse the Navy Log & the gift shop. Spend the afternoon visiting some of the most famous monuments and memorials in Washington, DC. Your experienced tour guide will take you to the WWII Memorial, Korean Memorial, and the Viet Nam Memorial. Time permitting, you will also see the FDR Memorial, as well as drive by the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, & Iwo Jima Memorial. Lunch will be on your own at a suitable location.


EVENT B: DINNER & “SHEAR MADNESS” SHOW AT THE KENNEDY CENTER

Thursday, September 15th (5:30pm-11:00pm)

 

Your evening at the Kennedy Center begins with a light dinner.  You will dine at the KC Café, located at the top of the Kennedy Center. This casual restaurant offers spectacular views of Washington, DC and the Potomac.  Following dinner, take a seat and enjoy the “Shear Madness” show. Now in its 15th year this popular comedy, “whodunit” is set in a fashionable part of DC at the Shear Madness Hair Styling Salon.  The salon is the scene of a wacky murder, and the audience helps to solve the crime.  With improvisation and audience participation, surprises are always around the corner.  Note that this theatre is located in the famous Kennedy Center complex but is NOT the formal theater – dress is very casual.  There will be an opportunity to explore this famous landmark on your own and see the spectacular view from the roof.  Please eat dinner before the show. This will be a very special evening out.

 

 

EVENT C: ANNAPOLIS, U.S. NAVAL ACADEMY & LUNCH

Friday, September 16th (9:00am-4:00pm)

 

Annapolis, once the Nation’s capital, remains much as it was, filled with historic taverns, restaurants, specialty shops and a splendid City Dock area. Begin your day at the venerable U.S. Naval Academy and step inside the Midshipman Officer Candidate’s world. At the Visitor’s Center and gift shop enjoy the movie – “To Lead and to Serve”. Then begin your walking tour featuring a visit to the Chapel, referred to as the Cathedral of the Navy and the Crypt of John Paul Jones-Father of the Navy. Other highlights include the Midshipman’s Dorm and the Naval Museum.   After the guided tour, you will have lunch (included in the tour price, please make your selection on your reservation form) at the Dry Dock Restaurant located at the Academy.  Spend the afternoon in downtown Annapolis; where there will be time for shopping and browsing the many unique shops & boutiques before returning to the hotel.  Due to security measures, there is quite a bit of walking on this tour, be sure to wear your walking shoes. Please select your luncheon choice on your reservation form.

Please Note: Photo Identification is required to visit the Naval Academy.



EVENT D: ARLINGTON CEMETERY & SUPER SIGHTSEEING TOUR

Saturday, September 17th (9:00am-3:00pm)

 

The day begins with a tour of Arlington Cemetery, where you will ride the tram up to the Tomb of the Unknown and watch the famous “changing of the guard” ceremony. Then proceed to view the Kennedy gravesite and the Eternal Flame. The tram will pass Arlington House as you return to the Visitor’s Center. This is a wonderful and moving experience for everyone.  Board your coach to see the most famous sights that make Washington so spectacular.  Your guide will relate interesting anecdotes while you enjoy a “windshield” tour of DC, with several photo stops along the way. Some of the sights that you will see include the White House, Capitol Hill, The Senate, Supreme Court, the Treasury Building, the Pentagon, Fords Theatre, Watergate, the Kennedy Center, the Washington Monument and much more, as time permits. Lunch will be on your own at a suitable location.  Don’t forget your camera!

 

 

TOUR CANCELLATION INSURANCE

 

Protect yourself from unforeseen expenses caused by sickness, injury or any other causes that impact your travel plans. This insurance enables a refund of Tour & Banquet expenses up until three (3) days before the start of your reunion. If you need to cancel – please call our office immediately (817-251-3551) for a cancellation number. If you have not purchased cancellation insurance all tour and meal money is non-refundable 6 weeks prior to the reunion.


Important Reunion Notes:

 

~ Tours may be cancelled if a minimum of 30 people per bus is not met. In this case, full refunds will be given.


~ Please understand that a certain amount of walking is necessary from the bus to attractions and in some instances, to also see the attractions. Please consider your abilities before purchasing tours.


~ Be sure to bring photo identification (like a driver’s license) on all events.


~ All tour times are subject to change.  A final itinerary is available at registration.


~ MRP suggests you bring bottled water and stay hydrated on all tours.

Reservations are due by August 5th, 2011. Late reservations accepted on a space available basis with a non refundable $10 per person late fee. You should make a copy of this form for your records. No refunds will be made after this date, unless you have purchased Tour Cancellation Insurance. Sorry, no refunds will be given starting 3 days before the reunion for any reason. There is a $10 per person refund processing fee.  Your cancelled check is your receipt and proof of purchase. There is a $25 return check fee for NSF. For a written confirmation please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope.  MRP will not be held liable for failure of vendors to provide contracted services or any injuries/accidents that may occur during the reunion. Tours require a minimum of 30 people in order to operate. Full refunds given for any cancelled Event.
